The new owners of Southend Airport have revealed lofty ambitions to expand its terminal and hit 10million passengers.

Southend Airport is continuing to go from strength to strength after easyJet revealed earlier this year that its base will be returning in 2025 with seven new routes.

Amid this growth, in May, The Carlyle Group took control of the airport and president and chief executive officer of the group's US based investment arm for airport infrastructure, Amit Rikhy, revealed the firm’s vision for the future.

He is hopeful of securing new routes, expanding the airport, and increasing passenger numbers from 3.5million a year to a whopping 10million.
