From fare dodgers to speeding drivers, these are 20 residents or visitors in south Essex who have been hit with fines at magistrates' courts in recent weeks.

A SPEEDING driver caught six miles per hour above the limit has been banned from the roads for half a year.

Stuart Lemon, of Mallards, Shoebury, has been banned from driving for six months after he was found going at 36 miles per hour on the A227 in Gravesend, Kent. The limit is 30.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure and the Vauxhall Combo driver appeared at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court last Thursday where he was handed the ban.

Lemon, 46, was also hit with a £71 fine, a surcharge to fund victim services of £28 and £85 prosecution costs.


A VAN driver caught using his phone behind the wheel has been ordered to pay more than £700 in a fine and costs.

John Andrews, of Ruthven Close, Wickford, was driving a Vauxhall Combo on the M3 in Fleet, Hampshire, when he was found using his mobile phone on January 10 last year.

The 41-year-old denied the offence but was found guilty at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 24.

He must now pay a £300 fine, a £120 surcharge and prosecution costs of £300, the court ordered.

His driving record was also endorsed with six penalty points.


A DRIVER caught 13 miles above the speed limit in a main road has been ordered to pay more than £400.

Julia Quinn, of Brampstead, Laindon, was caught doing 53mph on the A10 in Enfield while behind the wheel of a Peugeot on December 27 last year. The limit is 40. The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Willesden Magistrates’ Court last Friday.

Quinn, 36, was fined £220, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and prosecution costs of £100. 

She also got three points on her driving record.


A MAN who failed to identify a driver alleged to have been guilty of an offence has been fined more than £300.

Ismail Khan, 22, did not give information to the chief officer of Essex Police, in Billericay, relating to the Ford Fiesta driver on April 13 last year.

Khan, of Depot Road, Horsham, had denied the offence, but changed his plea to guilty at Worthing Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.

He must now pay a fine of £346, the court ordered.

His driving record was also endorsed with six penalty points.


A MOTORIST found using his phone behind the wheel has been hit with a fine.

Humayun Farooq, of Great Oxcroft, Laindon, was caught using his mobile phone while he was driving a Volkswagen Polo on the A12 Eastern Avenue in Redbridge.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Bromley Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday.

The 41-year-old must now pay a £220 fine for the January 7 offence, as well as a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and prosecution costs of £110.

He was handed six penalty points for his driving record.


A MAN who admitted handling a stolen car worth £38,000 has been jailed.

Paul Barringer, of Westcliff Gardens, Canvey, handled a stolen Blue Hyundai Tucson Estate on May 18 for the benefit of repairing the vehicle for a friend, or dishonestly arranged to do so, knowing or believing it to be stolen, Stratford Magistrates’ Court heard.

He was also caught driving with an expired licence, driving without insurance, and in possession of cannabis on May 17.

The 32-year-old admitted all offences and was jailed for 18 weeks last Monday.

He must also pay an £80 and a £154 surcharge.


A SPEEDING driver has been ordered to pay more than £400 in a fine and costs.

Kehinde Akinwanmi A Fakolujo, of Latimer Drive, Laindon was driving a Ford Kuga on the A406 in Golders Green, Barnet, when he was caught going at 46 miles per hour on November 26. The limit is 40.

The 39-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure and was hit with a £230 fine at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court last Monday.

He must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £92 and prosecution costs.

His driving record was also endorsed with three points.


A SPEEDING driver caught at five miles per hour above the limit has been ordered to pay more than £400.

Rickie Collier, of Runwell Road, Wickford, was driving a Toyota Hilux in Limehouse Link Tunnel, in east London, when he was found going at 35 miles per hour on November 27. The limit is 30.

The 34-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure last Wednesday.

He was ordered to pay a £217 fine, a £86 surcharge to fund victim services and £100 in prosecution costs at Willesden Magistrates’ Court.


A c2c passenger caught without a £1.90 train ticket must now pay nearly £500.

Isatu Kamara, of York Road, Southend, was found travelling on a train between Chalkwell and Southend Central without having paid the far on February 1, Barkingside Magistrates’ Court heard.

The 26-year-old must now pay a fine of £220 and £1.90 in compensation.

Magistrates also ordered Kamara to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and prosecution costs of £175.


A FARE dodger caught travelling into south Essex without a train ticket has been ordered to pay almost £500.

Alba Raure, of Osier Drive, Basildon, boarded a train from Fenchurch Street to Laindon without having paid the fare on January 30, Barkingside Magistrates’ Court heard.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure last Friday.

Raure must now pay a £220 fine and compensation of £8.60.

Magistrates also ordered the 23-year-old to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and prosecution costs of £175.


A SPEEDING driver caught above a 20 mile per hour limit has been handed a large fine.

David Laybourn, of Latimer Drive, Laindon, was behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Mokka when he was caught driving at 25 miles per hour on the A1203, in Aldgate, east London.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Bromley Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.

Laybourn, 30, must now pay a fine of £220 as well as an £88 surcharge and £110 prosecution costs, the court ordered.

His driving record was endorsed with three penalty points. 


A FARE dodger caught without a £6.90 ticket on a c2c train has been hit with a fine.

Rhyce Williams boarded a train from Leigh to Barking without having paid the valid fare on January 27, Barkingside Magistrates’ Court heard.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure last Friday.

Magistrates have now ordered Williams, of Bellhouse Lane, Leigh, to pay a £220 fine and £6.90 compensation.

The 34-year-old was also ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and prosecution costs.


A FARE dodger who tried to travel for one stop without a train ticket must now pay more than £450.

Lee Sullivan, 32, was travelling from Basildon to Laindon when he was found to have entered the c2c train without having paid the £2.30 fare.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court last Friday.

Sullivan, of Station Approach, Canvey, has now been ordered to pay a £220 fine, compensation of £2.30, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and costs of £175. 


A SPEEDING driver has been fined more than £200 after he was caught above the limit on the M25.

Steven Mackinnon, of Ivy Gate Close, Wickford, was driving a Volvo on the motorway in Enfield when he was recorded at 58mph on December 4. The limit was 50.

The 37-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure last Thursday.

He must now pay a £220 fine, an £88 surcharge to fund victim services and prosecution costs of £110, Bromley Magistrates’ Court ordered. His driving record was endorsed with three points.


A SPEEDING driver caught 13 miles per hour above the limit has been hit with a fine.

Robert Hayes, of Rosebay Avenue, Billericay, was driving an Audi A3 in Limehouse Link Tunnel, east London, when he was found going at 43 miles per hour on December 2. The limit is 30.

The 33-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure last Wednesday.

He was hit with a £199 fine and four penalty points at Willesden Magistrates’ Court.

Hayes must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £79 and prosecution costs of £100.


A c2c passenger who was caught without a £1.90 ticket has been ordered to pay almost £500 in a fine, compensation and costs.

Scott Bedford, of Rippleside, Basildon, was travelling from Chalkwell to Westcliff when he was found to have entered a train without the valid ticket on Valentine’s Day this year.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday.

Magistrates have ordered Bedford to pay a £220 fine and compensation of £1.90.

The 42-year-old must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and £175 prosecution costs.


A COMMUTER who was caught travelling without a train ticket has been slapped with a fine.

John Southern, of Cambridge Road, Southend, had travelled from Fenchurch Street to Southend Central on a c2c train when he had not paid the valid fare on February 26, Barkingside Magistrates’ Court heard. 

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure last Friday.

Southern, 31, has been ordered to pay a fine of £220 and £7 compensation.

He must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and prosecution costs of £175, magistrates ordered.

Brandon Scopes, 21, was travelling on a c2c train from Leigh to Benfleet when he was found without a valid ticket on March 4, Barkingside Magistrates’ Court heard.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure last Friday and Scopes, of Regent Close, Grays, has been handed a fine of £220.

He must also pay compensation of £2, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and prosecution costs of £175, the court ordered.
