DRIVERS are reporting "gridlock" on major roads in south Essex amid a number of works and an earlier crash.

AA and Google traffic maps show heavy traffic across the A127 from Rayleigh back to Basildon.

This comes after an earlier crash on the major road heading towards Southend, which saw one lane closed with congestion to Nevendon and towards Rawreth on the A130 in patches.

All lanes have since been re-opened but traffic has yet to clear. One lane is also closed near Nevendon Junction due to electricity work which could be affecting this traffic.

Two sets of temporary traffic signals on the A129, one in Rayleigh High Street near Castle Road in and one at Asquith Avenue in Thundersley, is also causing heavy traffic, AA shows.

One lane is closed due to water main work on A13 London Road in Benfleet, with delays at Sadlers Farm and on the A13 in patches back to Fobbing.
