Drivers are facing delays of nearly an hour after a lane of the A127 was shut for repair works.
Emergency repairs on the London-bound A127 Southend Arterial Road have seen one lane closed at the A1245 Fairglen Interchange.
This is causing long delays back to Eastwood on the A127 and on surrounding roads as people try to avoid the queues.
One driver told the Echo they had been stuck for 40 minutes trying to clear the stretch of road.
