DRIVERS have been warned of six weeks of temporary closures and traffic lights on a busy Rayleigh road while developers work on improvements.

Countryside and Vistry will be carrying out traffic signal improvement works linked to the Wolsey Park development at the London Road, Victoria Avenue and Hatfield Road junction in Rayleigh from next Monday, July 22.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place at the site as well as a temporary closure of Victoria Avenue where it meets London Road, while these improvements take place for six weeks.

An Essex Highways spokesman said: “Drivers are advised to observe traffic restrictions that will be in place and to allow extra travelling time as delays are likely.”

A diversion route will be in place with access via Vernon Avenue and residential access to Victoria Avenue, Maine Crescent, Regent Close and Sweyne Close will be possible through Cheapside West.

To manage traffic flows on London Road and Hatfield Road, workers will be on site to ensure the temporary traffic lights are functioning well.

Temporary parking restrictions will be in place on Hatfield Road during the works.

The spokesman added: "Please also note that due to the proximity of the two bus stops located on London Road - west of the junction of Victoria Avenue - it will be necessary to close them during the works to aid with vehicle movements.

"Drivers are advised to observe traffic restrictions that will be in place and to allow extra travelling time as delays are likely.

"The developer is responsible for ensuring that residents and businesses are informed of their works, with the latest information will be reflected on signage, however we will update details on our dedicated webpage as information becomes available."
