A MAN was rushed to hospital after two cars crashed in a major Southend road this morning.

Emergency services flooded Southchurch Road, between The Exchange pub and the Esso garage, after the crash after 11.45am today.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were seen dealing with the incident into the early afternoon. While the fire service has confirmed no one was trapped, one man has been taken to Southend Hospital for further care.

Photos from the scene showed the cars - believed to be a Skoda and a Range Rover - sustained damage to their front bumpers after the incident.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 11.45am with reports of a road traffic collision on Southchurch Road in Southend involving two vehicles.

“An ambulance and an ambulance officer vehicle were sent to the scene. One patient, an adult male, was transported to Southend University Hospital for further care.”

Firefighters made the scene safe by 12.14pm but emergency services were still at the scene into the afternoon as one of the cars could be seen blocking the road.
