GREATER Anglia has launched an investigation after a train derailed from the tracks at a depot near Southend Victoria Station.

Trains were disrupted on Saturday night after the incident, however no passengers trains were involved.

Minor repairs were carried out by Network Rail before normal service resumed the next day.

A Greater Anglia spokesperson said: “Some services between Liverpool Street and Southend Victoria were disrupted on Saturday night due to an operating incident within the depot at Southend Victoria, which resulted in some delays and cancellations.

“No passenger services were involved in the incident and services returned to normal as soon as possible.

“An investigation into what happened is underway.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Anyone who was delayed can claim delay repay at greateranglia.co.uk/delayrepay.”

A Network Rail spokesperson said: "On 13 July at 20:45 hrs, we received reports that the front carriage of a train (not in service) derailed at a depot near Southend Victoria, causing some disruption to late night train services.

"Our teams promptly attended the site and re-railed the wheels of the front carriage quickly and repaired minor damage to the infrastructure, allowing train services to resume safely the next day. We're conducting an investigation to identify the cause of the incident, and it has also been reported to the Rail Accident Investigation Branch".
