Discussions “are ongoing” over the future of a landmark A127 pub after it closed its doors for the final time.

The 100-year-old Dick Turpin shut earlier this month after failing to turn a profit for three years, with concrete barriers placed around the pub.

The future of the building remains unclear with previous plans by the EG Group to demolish it and build a petrol station thrown out by Basildon Council earlier this year.

However, Greene King, the brewery behind the pub, has confirmed it is “reviewing its options” for the building following the closure.

In an update, a spokesman for Greene King said: “We are continuing to review our options for the building, whilst keeping in mind the best interests of the community. Discussions are ongoing and no decision has been made yet.

“We are aware that the closure of the Dick Turpin pub is disappointing news to the local community and our loyal customers, and would like to thank those who have enjoyed visiting us over the years.”

The historic pub off the A127 in Wickford was beloved by petrolheads and bikers who would meet in its car park
