Things are starting to heat up in south Essex- with forecasters predicting temperatures will start pushing 30C this weekend.

After what has been branded an "unseasonal" start to the summer thanks to rainy, drab weather - temperatures are finally set to rise over this weekend.

Temperatures going into the weekend are set to hit 29C during the daytime in Southend and 18C at night, cooled slightly during the day by fair gusts of wind.

This peak will carry into Saturday, which is currently set to hit an equally sweltering 28C and 17C at night, before temperatures begin to cool to a more manageable 24C on Sunday.

This heat is set to be spread across all of south Essex, with Basildon peaking at 29C on Friday as well, alongside Rochford and Castle Point.

The good news follows south Essex's rainy start to July, that has seen it battered by rainstorms as other parts of the UK face yellow warnings for rain.
