Stephen Aylen, non-aligned councillor for Belfairs ward, said: "There are four others in that block and it has smashed through a resident's bedroom."

He told the Echo the other people in the block are "a bit shaken up" but are supporting the resident who lives there.

"I hope the driver is okay, it is a shocker to hear that this happened," he added.

"The council support team will need to have things checked over by structural engineers once the car is removed to check the building is safe and secure."

The East of England Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
