A murder probe has been launched in the wake of yesterday's shocking incident in Westcliff.

Police officers rushed to Hamlet Court Road yesterday shortly after 6pm following reports of two people being seriously assaulted.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene, police have said, with another man taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Police have added that a cordon will remain in place today on the road - as a 55 year old man has been arrested on  suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

A huge emergency service presence was reported at the scene, with pictures showing an air ambulance landing in Chalkwell Park and at least three ambulances and two police cars.
