A man has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, following an assault in Rayleigh earlier this month.

Police were called to reports of an assault at an address in Tyrell Road at around 12.10am on Friday 12 July.

The victim reported being physically assaulted and injured with a knife before managing to leave the property.

Members of the public then called the Police.

A man was arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent, threats to kill, assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage.

37-year-old Robert Martin, of Tyrell Road in Rayleigh, has now been charged with causing GBH with intent, intentional suffocation, criminal damage and common assault on an emergency worker.

He has been remanded in custody and appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on 13 July.

Martin will appear at Basildon Crown Court on 12 August.
