A violent screwdriver attack left a man requiring surgery and stitches after suffering injuries to his neck following a road rage incident.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was attacked in London Road, Benfleet, at around 5pm on July 4 by three men.

In the lead up to the attack, the victim reported he had been in a car which had been cut up by an "old style" black Vauxhall Astra at the Sadlers Farm Roundabout, and people in the car had then shouted at the driver of the car he was in.

As both vehicles continued to drive along London Road, a drink was thrown from the Astra at the car the victim was in.

When the two vehicles came to a stop, the victim got out and was attacked by three men including one who is reported to have had a screwdriver.

The man with the screwdriver has been described as white, between 5ft 10 and 6ft tall, in his early-to-mid 20s and skinny, wearing a baseball cap, light blue jeans, a Louis Vuitton belt, and a khaki jacket.

The driver of the Astra is described as being tanned and skinny, also in his early-to-mid 20s, with thick black hair and wearing all black clothing.

The third man is described as white and chubby, with short, receding hair and around 30 years-old.

There was also a female passenger in the car who has been described as white and slim with long black hair, 5ft 4ins tall, and wearing large hoop earrings.

PC Arron Matthewman, from Castle Point and Rochford CID, said: “The victim was left with a really nasty injury and it could have been much worse. He required surgery and stitches and it’s really important we find those responsible.

“If you have any information about what happened, or witnessed the moments before the attack, I need you to get in contact.”
