A Rayleigh man who lost his uncle after a battle with a brain tumour has taken on three running challenges to raise funds for the charity that supported him.

Kyle Helleur, 35, wanted to give back to Havens Hospices which cared for his uncle at the end of his life and supported his family during the most difficult of times.

Ian was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2023, and despite initial improvements, his condition worsened with the tumour's growth.

Kyle said: "As his condition deteriorated towards the end of his life, a bed became available at Fair Havens, which was such a blessing for both him, my aunt and cousins.

"Instead of being carers they were able to rest and enjoy the company of each other.

"The staff provided amazing support to my family in all aspects. We are so very grateful for their care, attention and just being there for everyone towards the end.

"We all can’t thank Havens Hospices enough, which is why I decided to fundraise for the charity as a way to give something back to them.”

Kyle's fundraising endeavour began with the Halstead Marathon in May, where despite the searing heat, he soldiered on, spurred by the scenic Essex countryside and family cheers, finishing with a personal best time of 3 hours and 35 minutes.

In June, Kyle, together with his fiancée and sister, participated in the Southend Half Marathon, Havens Hospices' flagship running event.

Despite experiencing pain in his hip, he completed the race in 1 hour 39 minutes.

In July, Kyle faced his final fundraising challenge, the formidable Holkham Half Iron Middle Distance Triathlon.

With little sleep, Kyle swam, cycled and ran a total of 70 miles in 5 hours and 55 minutes.

Grateful for the overwhelming support received, Kyle added, "“I can’t thank everyone enough for helping me smash my fundraising target of £1,000.

"71 per cent of the money Havens Hospices needs to care for people in our community comes from donations so I know these donations will make such a difference to other families like mine."
