COMMUTERS were met with chaos this morning after traffic lights at a busy Basildon junction were out.

Photos show a traffic light pole at the Pipps Hill junction knocked over and signs up saying the lights are out.

It left drivers having had to use their own judgement at the crossing.

The pole has been covered with tape, while signs have been put up to alert drivers that the other lights in the junction are not working.

Pedestrians have also faced dangers as people have had to cross roads without any signals, with one on-looker describing the situation as "dangerous."

It is currently unknown how the traffic pole was knocked over or when the lights will be restored.
