ROADS are set to be filled with crowds of colourful costumes as the popular Basildon and Pitsea Carnival returns.

The event will be taking place on Saturday with a parade through Ghyllgrove, Whitmore Way and Felmores, culminating in a huge festival at Northlands Park.

A giant inflatable dart board and activity hive are part of the family-fun event as well as stalls, a BBQ, ice cream, face painting and more.

The parade will move off from De La Salle School at noon with a rolling road closure along the route - Ghyllgrove, Whitmore Way, Felmores, and into Northlands Park - scheduled on one.network to end at 2pm.

The festival itself will run until 5pm.

Not all roads will be closed at once and will be re-opened once the festival has passed. The parade will stop and move to one side to allow emergency vehicles to get through.

A Basildon and Pitsea Carnival spokesman said on Facebook: "Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated. Plan your travel accordingly and join us for a fantastic day of celebration!"
