Two-way traffic lights are now in place as repairs are being carried out following a burst water main in Thorpe Bay.

Essex and Suffolk Water were summoned to Station Road, in Thorpe Bay, on Tuesday evening, following reports of a burst water main.

Photographs, viewed by the Echo, show the road heavily flooded with water.

Several residents also took to social media to report the absence of water or low water pressure.

Among the roads cited were Elm Road, Avon Way, West Road, Saxon Gardens, and Caulfield Road, to mention just a few.

Essex and Suffolk Water have since confirmed that the repair involves the removal of a wall to enable the work to be carried out securely.

As a result of this, two-way traffic lights have been set up on Station Road.

At this stage, the duration of the repairs remains uncertain, however, water bosses hope to mend it as swiftly as possible.

Nevertheless, Essex and Suffolk Water have already isolated the water main, which means there is now minimal effect on the water supply to customers.

A spokesperson for Essex & Suffolk Water said: “Last night we received reports of a burst water main on Station Road in Thorpe Bay.

“Our teams attended quickly and managed to isolate the water main, meaning that there was minimal impact to customer supplies.

“They continued to work throughout the night in order to carry out repairs, however, due to the location of the burst, the repair will require the removal of a wall in order to allow the work to be carried out safely, and two-way traffic lights are in place on Station Road.

“Repairs will carry on throughout the day, and we hope to get this fixed as quickly as possible.

“We would like to thank residents for their patience and would like to apologise for any inconvenience.”
