A HUGE police and Coastguard operation is under way in Old Leigh tonight over fears for a man who was seen undressing before walking towards the water.
Shortly after 4.40pm today (Wednesday July 24), Essex Police were alerted to a man who had been wearing blue shorts, a white short-sleeved shirt and a baseball cap.
He then undressed, leaving belongings behind and began walking towards the water wearing tighter-fitting black and white shorts, police say.
A force spokesman added he did not return to collect his belongings and no further sightings of him have been reported.
The spokesman added: “We are extremely concerned for his welfare and widespread searches have been – and continue to be – carried out alongside our Coastguard colleagues.
“If you’ve seen the man in the area either before 4.40pm or after that time, please get in contact with us as soon as you can on 101, citing incident 1100 of today 24 July.”
