From drink drivers to people failing to give information to police, these are 14 south Essex residents and visitors who have been sentenced at magistrates' courts this month.

A DRIVER who failed to take part in a breath test for police has been banned from driving for three years.

Soji Plavunilkunnathil, 43, did not provide a specimen of breath for analysis to police in Basildon in the course of an investigation on August 27 last year, Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court heard.

He admitted the offence on Tuesday, July 2 and was handed a driving ban as well as 90 hours of unpaid work.

Plavunilkunnathil, of Steward Court, Prescot, Merseyside, has also been ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £114 surcharge.


A MAN who failed to identify a driver alleged to have been guilty of an offence has been hit with a fine.

Saif Shaaban did not give information to Essex Police in Billericay relating to the MG driver on April 25 last year, Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard.

He admitted the offence on Friday, July 5, and was handed a £380 fine and six penalty points.
Shaaban, of Trafalgar Gardens, Tower Hamlets, east London, must also pay a £152 surcharge to fund victim services and £85 in prosecution costs.


A MAN who failed to hand evidence to police has been banned from the roads for half a year.

Max Lampard, 33, did not give information to Essex Police in Billericay relating to a Ford Mondeo driver alleged guilty of an offence on May 9 last year.

He had initially denied the offence but changed his plea to guilty at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 2,

Lampard, of Crouch Gardens, Buntingford, Hertfordshire, was banned from driving for six months and handed a £900 fine, ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £360 surcharge.


A DRIVER caught behind the wheel without insurance has been fined more than £600.

Gary Coxall, of Heath Road, Billericay was driving in Petty Wales, near Tower of London, when he was found without insurance covering his vehicle on January 30.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 11.

The 43-year-old must now pay a £660 fine, a £264 surcharge to fund victim services and prosecution costs of £110.

His driving record was also endorsed with six penalty points.


A MAN who failed to identify a driver to police has been slapped with a fine.

Emmanual Sakyi did not give information to the chief officer of Essex Police in Billericay relating to a BMW driver who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence on December 13.

The 36-year-old admitted the charge of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver when required at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 16.

Sakyi, of Wheatfields, Newham, east London, was ordered to pay a £180 fine and prosecution costs of £85.

His driving record has been endorsed with six points.


A DRINK driver caught behind the wheel while he was almost three times over the limit has been hit with a fine. 

Brandon Mtengwa, of Boston Avenue, Rayleigh, was driving in Brundell Road, Leeds, when he was found with 94 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath on July 8. The limit is 35.

The 26-year-old was also driving without insurance. He admitted the offence at Leeds District Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and has been hit with a £120 fine and ten penalty points.

Mtengwa must also pay £85 prosecution costs and a £48 surcharge to fund victim services, the court ordered.


A DRIVER who unlawfully used a blue badge while he was parked in a residential street has been fined more than £400.

William Morris, of Maplewood, Canvey, displayed the card in a silver BMW while he was parked in Babbington Road in Barking on or about November 28 last year, Barkingside Magistrates’ Court heard.

The offence was proved in the Morris’ absence last Tuesday and he has been ordered to pay a fine of £440, a surcharge to fund victim services of £176 and prosecution costs of £370.


A DRINK driver caught with more than double the alcohol limit in her system has been banned from the roads.

Jade Thrower, of Western Esplanade, Canvey, was behind the wheel of a Mercedes in Hoxton Street, Hackney, when she was found with 82 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on June 1. The limit is 35.

The 29-year-old admitted the offence and was banned from driving for a year and a half at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. She must also pay a £400 fine, £85 prosecution costs and a £160 surcharge to fund victim services.


A DRIVER caught with a reflective number plate has been handed a large fine.

Waheed Syed, of North Crescent, Southend, was found with a number plate which had reflective characters which were not viewable when he was driving in Washington Road, Feltham, on January 12.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Bromley Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.

The 33-year-old must now pay a £220 fine, £88 surcharge to fund victim services and £110 prosecution costs, the court ordered.


A DRIVER who left is car in a town centre car park for longer than allowed has been hit with a fine.

Thomas Aldridge, of Rochford Garden Way, Rochford, parked his car in the long stay car park in Newham Street, Ely, for longer than the maximum permitted on December 15, Cambridge Magistrates’ Court heard.

The offence was proved in his absence last Friday and he has now been fined £60. 

Aldridge must also pay compensation of £60, a surcharge to fund victim services of £24 and prosecution costs of £120.


A DRIVER caught using his phone behind the wheel has been slapped with a fine.

Adam Husayn, of High Street, Canvey, was driving a Land Rover in Perth Road, Redbridge, when he was found using a mobile phone on January 19.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Bromley Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.

Husayn, 44, has been ordered to pay a fine of £220, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and prosecution costs of £110.

His driving record was also endorsed with six points.


A VAN driver caught above a major road’s limit has been fined more than £500.

Jack Burt, of Victoria Avenue, Rayleigh, was driving a Volkswagen Caddy on the A30 in Bodmin, Cornwall, when he was caught speeding above the 60 miles per hour limit on April 19, Bodmin Law Courts heard.

The 34-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure last Thursday and was hit with a £533 fine, a surcharge to fund victim services of £213 and prosecution costs. His driving record was also endorsed with five points.


A MAN caught handling a stolen car has been ordered to take part in unpaid work.

Juan Quintero-Majia handled the Silver Toyota C-HR in Rayleigh on February 24, knowing or believing it to be stolen, Bromley Magistrates’ Court heard.

The 24-year-old denied the offence, but admitted driving without a licence and insurance in

Hartford Close. He was found guilty of handling stolen goods and handed 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was also banned from driving for six months and was ordered to pay £150 prosecution costs and a £114 surcharge.
