A LANDMARK Leigh flats development that has been “ten years in the making” has finally been completed as the new homes hit the market.
The first of the new homes at St Clements Gate, next to Henry Burgers, in Leigh Broadway have been placed on the market by estate agents Scott and Stapleton, with a two-bedroom flat listed at £850,000.
The 20 new homes are a mix of one and two bedroom apartments and has been branded a “super development” by the estate agent as they begin viewings.
Planning permission was initially granted more than ten years ago and the sight of hoardings surrounding the building has become part of the norm for residents.
It comes alongside a number of developments in the area, including 18 flats at the nearby Grand Hotel and15 flats opposite the Grand on the site of a former car wash.
Carole Mulroney, Liberal Democrat councillor for Leigh, was concerned around the number of homes being built within a small area of t he town.
She said: “This development has been a long-time coming as it was originally granted more than ten years ago.
“That site has been semi-derelict for a while. It has been a long-time coming and long-time building as well.
“I was worried about this area because you already have the Grand, which has expanded, then the apartment block opposite, and now we have the car wash site nearing completion.
“It is a huge gathering of flats in one very small area, and it is big developments within Leigh.
“The development will provide needed housing, whether it is the right type of housing is another argument.
“I don’t have any real other major concerns other than the concerns around traffic in the area.
“But we will see what happens. I can’t say it is overly welcomed as I think it is too much in that area with what is already there.
“However, at least it is finished and completed now.”
Scott and Stapleton say this “super development” is now ready for viewings and potential purchasers should register their interest.
The development is a mix of one and two bedroom apartments all with fitted wardrobes, good quality kitchens with integrated appliances, modern bathrooms, plus en suites and balconies in the two bedrooms properties, secure allocated parking and lift access.
