VIOLENT thugs attacked a man living with severe mental disabilities - punching him to the floor and “kicking him in the head” while he was unconscious.

Hannah Rose, 34, has revealed how her brother, Jacob, 29, was attacked near the former Barge Inn pub off High Road in Vange as he walked from a friends home at 1am on Sunday morning.

Jacob was taken to hospital where doctors told Hannah, who is his registered carer, it appeared he had been “kicked in the head” after being knocked unconscious.

He was found by a neighbour who recognised him before taking him to his sister who rushed him to hospital.

Hannah fears he may have been targeted because he is vulnerable and revealed he has the “mental age of a 14-year-old”  and is being treated for schizophrenia and epilepsy.

She said: “As soon as I got the knock on the door, my heart went in my mouth, to see that I had to stay strong, everyone was crying but I had to be strong for Jake.

“I wasn’t expecting this with him, this area is horrible though and my car has been vandalised and people have banged on doors and run off, the area is quite rough, but he is very vulnerable and has a heart of gold.

“He wouldn’t hurt a fly, he used to shop for the neighbours and offer to do odd jobs.”

Jacob has lived with Hannah for 15 years and is dependent on her for food, washing and most tasks.

Following the assault, Jake has been unwilling to go out, which was already difficult for him, and Hannah has said she is “scared for him”.

“I am scared for him, to think he now feels unsafe to go out after being attacked”, she added.

“All he remembers is a sharp pain to the side of his head and waking up slumped on the side of the road, he took himself to a house close by who knows him and she cleaned him up and took him to me.

“The hospital said it looks like he has been kicked in the head, you can see the imprint scrape.”
