Classic 1950s and 1960s jets are set to take over an RAF bomber's Southend Airport hangar as it hosts one of its popular open days next month.

Visitors will be able to explore the historic RAF bomber Avro Vulcan XL426 in a special open event on August 18, with examples of the weapons carried by the Vulcan during its time with the air force.

The iconic aircraft will also be joined by other exhibits as well as the cockpits of classic '50s and '60s jets.

Drinks will be on sale throughout the day and the hangar shop will be open selling a selection of Vulcan souvenirs, including models, badges, patches, jams, books and much more.

General admission is £8 for adults with free entry for under-16s. Tickets will be on sale on the gate and are also available to buy at avrovulcan.com/events/visit-the-vulcan-classic-jets-day-aug2024.

Cockpit visits are an additional £8 for both adults and under-16s. Gates open at 10am and close at 4pm.

The Vulcan was flown to Southend Airport for preservation in 1986, and in 1993, the Vulcan Restoration Trust took charge and has since maintained the aircraft in full ground running condition.
