Firefighters stopped the spread of a field fire in Thurrock under “really hot conditions” as the cause of the incident is yet unknown.
Four crews from Grays, Orsett and Corringham were called to a field near Woodside Close, Grays at around 5.18pm on Tuesday.
The emergency service worked to extinguish the fire in sections to prevent it spreading to a line of trees nearby.
According to Essex Fire and Rescue, the cause of the fire is still unknown.
Watch Manager Gary Bannister from Grays Fire Station urged people to be mindful of their litter, as it can cause fires when it is getting hot.
He said: “Crews worked quickly in really hot conditions to prevent the fire spreading further into the fields and tree line.
“You can help us to reduce the number of wildfires this summer by properly stubbing out cigarettes before discarding them, by avoiding having campfires or barbecues in the countryside and keeping an eye on bonfires at all times.
“Please take any litter home with you that could heat up in the sun and cause a fire.”
