POLICE busted down the door of a property in a dramatic dawn raid to seize more than 100 cannabis plants and shut down a drugs farm. 

Dozens of police officers burst through the door of the Wickford industrial unit to discover the large crop of cannabis plants as well as finding two stolen cars. 

Following the raid, in the early hours of Monday morning, one man has been arrested for being concerned in the supply of cannabis, cultivation of cannabis, abstraction of electricity and theft of a motor vehicle. 

Wickford Park councillor George Jeffery praised police for the bust and clamping down on drugs in the area.

“I hope they continue to be robust in tackling the production and also the distribution.

“It is always a concern to hear of drug-related crimes. But I am glad police are being robust in tackling the issue.

“If residents do have any information, it is important they come forward, so police can tackle the issue head on. This can be reported an anonymously.”

The cannabis grow has now been dismantled and the power supply to the building cut.

The raid was carried out by the Basildon community police team alongside specialist officers from Essex Police. 

Two police cars and one police van were seen outside the property before the raid took place.

“A cannabis grow with 111 plants was found, along with two stolen vehicles.

“Both vehicles were seized, with a further vehicle taken in for examination as a suspected stolen vehicle.

“The cannabis grow was dismantled and power supply to the property was cut due to the meter being dangerously bypassed.

“A male was arrested for being concerned in the supply of cannabis, cultivation of cannabis, abstraction of electricity and theft of motor vehicle.

“Police will act upon information and intelligence, and be robust where offending is identified.
