A PERSON sadly died at the scene after being hit by a train near Basildon, the ambulance service has confirmed.

Multiple ambulances as well as an air ambulance were called to Station Approach in Laindon on Saturday after reports a person had been hit by a train.

Trains were halted on the c2c line and passengers were conveyed via rail replacement buses or Greater Anglia while emergency services were at the scene.

Sadly, despite the efforts of paramedics, the person had died at the scene.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: "One ambulance, one ambulance officer vehicle, three Hazardous Area Response Team vehicles and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were called to Station Approach Laindon on Saturday following reports that a person had been hit by a train.

"Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, the person had died at the scene."
