YOBS caused a train delay after stealing fire extinguishers and covering the inside of a station with foam.

Videos circulating social media show bemused commuters arriving at Billericay Station yesterday morning to find the station covered in white foam.

British Transport Police attended the scene and confirmed two teenage boys had been “identified” over the vandalism, which took place at 3.48am yesterday.

The Greater Anglia 4am train was delayed for six minutes as a result.

Billericay West Tory councillor Phil Turner called the action “utterly crazy, irresponsible and reckless”.

He added: “It isn’t funny in respect to the delay. It is worth condemning this sort of stuff and enough stuff happens to people without this happening.

“It is utterly crazy, childish and irresponsible that this kind of thing happens. It is reckless. You may think to yourself that it is kids being kids, or childish pranks, but it’s bad when it interferes with commutes and people coming to and from London, who are already stressed.”

Mr Turner also queried whether additional security arrangements need to be in place to prevent vandalism taking place in the early hours of the morning.

He said: “We also have to wonder whether Network Rail or Greater Anglia need to look at arrangements, where someone can walk onto the platform and go into the station. When I go, there is always at least one person on the gate.

“It’s irresponsible all round and while some may chuckle, it’s not a prank when it is interfering with other’s days - even one train being delayed causes issues.

“We can do without this kind of behaviour, keep it respectful and don’t do it again.”

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “Officers received reports of disorder at Billericay Railway Station at 3.48am on August 6.

“Officers attended and two teenage boys were identified in connection with the incident.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
