Police have warned of traffic disruption to be expected on the A127 as photos show an overturned lorry in Southend

Emergency services rushed to the scene of an overturned lorry on a major A127 roundabout in Southend.

Photos, seen by the Echo, showed a lorry on its side on the A127 Prince Avenue roundabout just after 6pm today.

The lorry had shed some of its load onto the major road.

Essex Police, the East of England Ambulance Service, and Essex Fire are all on the scene and, officers have warned drivers that the incident is "causing disruption to traffic".

Some road closures are also in place whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.

A family member of Danielle Belton, Conservative councillor responsible for Hockley and Ashingdon, was in the area at the time of the incident.

Ms Belton said: "It is always worrying to see any incident on our roads, especially one that could have been very serious.

"Thankfully it appears no one was badly hurt, and no other vehicles were involved.

"My thoughts are with the driver who is no doubt shaken up by what happened.

"Well done to our emergency services who were all in attendance quickly to try and reduce disruption for other road users and to make the area safe for those involved."

Essex Fire also confirmed that no one was trapped in the vehicle.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We are at the scene of a collision in Westcliff.

"We were called to reports that a lorry had overturned on Prince Avenue at just before 6pm at the roundabout near Tesco.

"This is causing disruption to traffic in the area and there are some road closures in place while emergency services work.

"Avoid the area if you can. Thank you for your understanding.

"And please rest assured that this incident is not connected to any of the reports of planned disorder which continue to circulate on social media."

A spokesman for Essex Fire added: "We were called to a lorry overturned on the A127 Tesco roundabout today at 5.59pm.

"Two crews from Southend attended helped Essex Police to make the lorry and road safe before leaving the incident at around 6.30pm. No-one was trapped."

The East of England Ambulance Service were also contacted for comment by the Echo.
