AN animal hospital is considering an award for the "weirdest place we've found a seal pup" after rescuing one found in the middle of the road.

South Essex Wildlife Hospital, based in Orsett, had recently admitted a seal pup rescued from a park in Wickford.

Now, a seal pup is being cared for by the charity after being rescued from the middle of a road.

Lead vet Tom had initially thought the pup was in perfect condition. However, sadly, the young seal was found with an ulcer to her eye after an examination.

The wildlife hospital shared: "Although looking in beautiful condition - seriously... look at that face - she wasn't quite reacting how we'd expect a young seal to and an initial examination soon found out why - the poor seal had an ulcer to her right eye.

"Now on a course of medication, she was initially a little reluctant to accept human help, but is now making great progress.

"Hopefully, we can have her eye fixed up as soon as possible."

The South Essex Wildlife Hospital serves the whole of south Essex and beyond and works tirelessly all year round to nurse sick and injured animals back to full health.
