From prolific shoplifters to drink drivers, these are 20 south Essex visitors or residents sentenced at magistrates' courts for a range of offences in recent weeks.

A SHOPLIFTER who targeted stores across a three-week period has been jailed for 25 weeks.

Keith Sears, of Beambridge Place, Basildon, appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday where he admitted five counts of theft from shops across Hornchurch between May 2 and May 23.

The 45-year-old also admitted an attempted theft from the Co-op and threatening behaviour towards staff in Sainsbury’s, both in the same town.

Alongside his prison sentence, Sears has been handed a three-year criminal behaviour order banning him from entering parts of Dagenham Heathway and Elm Park.


AN uninsured driver caught on the roads in Southend has been ordered to take part in unpaid work.

Flamur Gjuta was driving a Fiat 500 in West Road when he was found without insurance covering the car on October 3 last year. He was also caught with a quantity of cannabis.

The 24-year-old admitted both offences at Northampton Magistrates’ Court last Friday and was handed 60 hours of unpaid work.

Gjuta, of no fixed address, was also ordered to pay an £80 fine and £85 prosecution costs. His driving record was endorsed with six points.


A MAN who failed to hand evidence over to police has been ordered to pay more than £450 after being found guilty.

Odion Johnson, of Mistley End, Basildon, failed to give information to Kent Police relating to the identification of a Mercedes Sprinter driver alleged to have been guilty of an offence on May 24 last year.

The 27-year-old had denied the offence but was found guilty at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday.

Johnson must now pay a £180 fine, prosecution costs of £200 and a £72 surcharge to fund victim services.

His driving record was endorsed with six points.


A MAN who refused to identify a driver as part of a police investigation has been told to pay over £1,000.

Khalique Miah, 43, failed to give information to Essex Police in Billericay relating to the identification of a Toyota Prius driver alleged to have been guilty of an offence on July 4 last year.

He had denied the offence but changed his plea to guilty at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday.

Miah, of Old Montague Street, Whitechapel, east London, was fined £675, told to pay £200 costs and a £200 surcharge and given six points.


A DRINK driver caught behind the wheel on a motorway has been banned from the roads.

Samantha Davies, of Princes Avenue, Benfleet, was driving a red Mini on the M2 London-bound in Kent when she was found with 98 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, Medway Magistrates’ Court  heard. The limit is 80.

The 48-year-old admitted the offence last Friday and was banned from driving for one year and two months.

She was also ordered to pay a fine of £438, £85 in prosecution costs and a £175 surcharge.


A WOMAN has been hit with a fine after she failed to hand evidence to police after a driver was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

Laura Myers, 45, failed to give information to the chief officer for police in Billericay relating to the identification of the Ford Fiesta driver on July 14 last year.

She admitted the offence at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 25, and was ordered to pay a fine of £321.

Myers, of Otley Drive, Ilford, east London, was also handed six penalty points and told to pay £110 costs and a £128 surcharge.


A DRINK driver caught at more than double the limit while on the A127 has been handed a driving ban.

Louise Brown was behind the wheel of a Ford Focus on the major road in Basildon when she was found with 176 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood on February 20. The limit is 80.

The 49-year-old admitted the offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday where she was banned from driving for one year and six months.

Brown, of St Marys Lane, Harlow, must also pay a £120 fine, £85 prosecution costs and a £48 surcharge.


A SPEEDING driver caught going above the limit on a major Basildon road has been fined.

Mica Victor was driving a BMW in Nethermayne at the junction with Ashdon Way when the 35-year-old caught doing 47 miles per hour. The limit is 30.

Victor admitted the offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday and was handed an £80 fine.

Victor, of Hawksmoor Green, Hutton, has also been ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £32 and prosecution costs of £45.


A MAN who caused £2,000 worth of damage to a car has been handed 100 hours of unpaid work.

Badr Edhah, of Castledon Road, Downham, damaged the Infiniti M35H in Billericay on November 11 last year, as well as threatening to break another man’s car that same day with the intent to cause fear the threat would be carried out.

The 43-year-old had denied damaging the vehicle but was found guilty earlier this year. 
He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday where he was handed the community order.

Edhah was also ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation.


A WOMAN who attacked two police officers and tried to damage a car door has been ordered to pay compensation.

Sophie Morris, 37, was in Billericay when she attempted to cause the damage and assaulted two police officers by beating them on Saturday, June 22, Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard.

She admitted all three offences on Tuesday, July 23 and was ordered to pay a £200 fine. 

Morris, of Church Road, Sundon, Bedfordshire, must also pay £100 in compensation for each assault and £100 compensation for the attempted damage.


A FARE dodger caught at a station without his £44.50 train ticket has been ordered to pay more than £200 in a fine and costs.

Bishitsi Shipu, of Stromness Road, Southend, was found at Stratford International having travelled on a South Eastern train without paying the fare on February 14. 

The 29-year-old was ordered to pay a £40 fine as well as £44.50 in compensation at Bexley Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday. He must also pay a £16 surcharge to fund victim services and prosecution costs of £150.


A MAN who failed to identify a van driver alleged to have been guilty of an offence has been hit with a fine.

Samuel Amadasun failed to give information to Essex Police in Billericay relating to the Iveco Daily driver on July 20 last year.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure and Amadasun, of Trinity Gardens, Canning Town, east London, appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 25, where he was fined £180.

The 28-year-old’s driving record was also endorsed with six penalty points.


A COMMUTER caught at a train station without a £51.30 ticket has been ordered to pay over £500.

Connor Diack, of Sutton Road, Southend, was at Ashford International in Kent when it was found he travelled on a Southeastern train without the valid ticket on May 16.

The offence was proved in his absence at Bexley Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday and the 31-year-old was handed a £220 fine.

Diack was also ordered to pay £51.30 compensation, an £88 surcharge and prosecution costs of £150.


A VAN driver caught above the drink drive limit in Southend has been banned from the roads.

Cade Moore, 23, was behind the wheel of a Ford Transit in Prince Avenue when he was caught with 99 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The limit is 80.

Moore, of Trinity Street, Halstead, admitted the offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court and Family Court on Tuesday, July 23, and was banned from driving for a year.

He was also ordered to pay a £120 fine, £85 prosecution costs and a £48 surcharge to fund victim services.


A DRINK driver caught behind the wheel in Southend has been banned from the roads for a year.

Aras Ismail was driving in Sutton Road when he was found with 52 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on July 10, Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court heard.

The 35-year-old admitted the offence last Wednesday and was handed the driving ban as well as a £450 fine.

Ismail, of Beaufort Street, Brynmawr, must also pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £180 surcharge to fund victim services, the court ordered.


 

A SHOPLIFTER who targeted a BP garage in Basildon despite being banned from the store has been jailed.

Carly Day, of no fixed address, stole several items from the garage at Eastmayne on June 16, and entered the store again on June 26 when she was banned from doing so by a criminal behaviour order.

She was also found in possession of cannabis on July 12.

The 44-year-old admitted theft from a shop, breaching a criminal behaviour order and possession of a controlled class B drug at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court.

Day has now been jailed for eight weeks and ordered to pay £306.55 compensation.


A MAN who failed to give information police as part of an investigation into a driver has been banned from the roads for half a year.

Daniel Gayle, 37, failed to give information to Essex Police in Billericay relating to the identification of a Range Rover driver who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence on April 19 last year.

He denied the offence but was found guilty at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 24.

Gayle, of Baker Lane, Tonbridge, in Kent, was hit with a six month driving ban and £180 fine.

He was also ordered to pay £300 prosecution costs and  a £78 surcharge.


A DRINK driver caught behind the wheel while more than double the limit has been hit with a driving ban.

Jamie Britton, 41, was driving an Audi A4 in Westwater, Benfleet, when he was found with 76 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on July 11. The limit is 35.

Britton, of London Road, Benfleet, admitted the offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday.

He has now been banned from the roads for a year and handed a £430 fine.

The 41-year-old was also ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £172 surcharge.


A SPEEDING driver caught above the limit on a major south Essex road has been slapped with a fine.

Jack Hodgson, 27, was driving a Citroen Dispatch on the A127 between Laindon and Nevendon when he was found going above the 50 miles per limit on May 6 last year.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure and Hodgson appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 25, where he was fined £350.

Hodgson, of East Road, Chadwell Heath, East London, was also handed three penalty points, ordered to pay £110 prosecution costs and a surcharge to fund victim services of £140.


A DRINK driver caught behind the wheel in Southend when he was more than double the limit has been banned from the roads.

Joseph Baldock, of Priory Crescent, was driving a Peugeot Partner in West Street when he was found with 79 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on June 22. The limit is 35.

The 28-year-old admitted the offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court where he was banned from driving for one year and six months.

He must also pay a £380 fine, £85 prosecution costs and a £152 surcharge to fund victim services, the court ordered.
