Pirates, a sailor band and DJs will transform Southend Pier as a "stunning" replica Spanish tall ship returns to the landmark next week.

This August bank holiday weekend, Southend Pier will host its Bank Holiday Bonanza against the backdrop of the popular attraction, El Galeón Andalucía.

The replica of a 16th to 17th century galleon sailed into Southend for the first time last summer and sparked calls for it to be made a regular attraction, after huge success with residents queueing up daily to get on board.

As it returns to the world's longest pleasure pier on Thursday, August 22, Southend Pier will come alive with the sounds of top DJs and live bands across the Bank Holiday weekend from Saturday, August 24 to Monday, August 26.

The renowned Old Time Sailors will return to the pier to take visitors on a musical journey with their mix of sea shanties and folk tunes.

There will also be an eclectic mix of performances from The Silver Darlings, The Tempo Collective, Levent and Taylor’s World Band, Rollo Markee and The Tailshakers, The Tuppenny Bunters, No Good Woman and The Kingsnakes.

The Record Department with DJ Daryl Easlea and Middle Age Spread will be hitting the decks too.

On Saturday, Blackwater Pirates Essex will make a special appearance to help landlubbers really get into the spirit of the high seas.

They will be posing for photos at the pierhead and raising money for Little Havens Children’s Hospice.

Usual pier admission charges apply and there is an extra charge for boarding El Galeon. Visit southendpier.co.uk/galeon for more information.
