PARENTS say they have been left feeling “very foolish” after buying tickets for a inflatable fun day which had never been approved by Southend Council.
A warning has been issued by the council and Southend trading standards after a number of families bought tickets for the event which only gave a postcode as a location.
However, the council says it has “not been approached about a booking or approved this event”.
Residents said they were unable to open emailed tickets after purchasing.
Southend resident, Kate Davies, said: “I bought three tickets for my grand-daughter’s second birthday. It might only be £15 but I have now got three kids who were looking forward to going.”
Another resident, who wishes not to be named, added: “I feel very foolish, I am usually vigilant, but it seemed very legitimate, the link looked secure. I have gone into my email to click the ticket link, which now shows as nothing to open.
“It is disheartening as a lot of families were looking forward to it, who are now out of pocket with upset children.”
Ian Gilbert, Labour Southend councillor responsible for regulatory services, said: “We are aware of any event that was being advertised locally as ‘The Big Jump Inflatable Park’ from August 15 to September 5. The council has not been approached about a booking or approved this event in Southend.
“There are authorised inflatable fun day events taking place in Chalkwell Park on August 15 and 22, Priory Park on August 20 and Southchurch Park on August 27. We are aware that the website has now been changed and does not feature Southend but would encourage anyone who is unsure of a site or events credentials to not book tickets or share any personal information.”
Southend Council has confirmed that Ellis Leisure Bouncy Castle - not associated with “The Big Jump”, will be hosting authorised inflatable fun day events in the city.
