Southend's grammar schools are celebrating after "outstanding" pupils receive their best ever results.
Southend High School for Girls, in Southchurch Boulevard, said 40 per cent of all grades were A* or A, and 77 per cent were between A* and B.
This is the school's best performance ever.
Headteacher Jason Carey said: “We are incredibly proud of our students. They worked so hard for these results and truly deserve such outstanding outcomes.
“32 students achieved all A* and A grades. There was a wonderful atmosphere in school this morning as students and their families celebrated with staff.
“I want to extend my appreciation to all the teachers and support staff for their superb efforts in helping our students achieve these excellent results.”
One of the pupils, Michelle Chen, achieved an A* in Art and was one of the top performers nationally. She also earned an A in Product Design and a B in History.
Michelle’s mum said: “Michelle has had a fantastic time in her seven years at Southend High School for Girls and is now going to the prestigious Chelsea College of Arts to study Fine Art."
Twins, Amelia and Imogen Farmer, were "twinning" in their results as both of them achieved A* A A.
Amelia said: "I can’t believe my sister and I got the same grades. I feel so happy.
"After seven years at Southend High School for Girls we are off to difference places now. I am studying English Literature at Warwick and I am so excited." Imogen added: “I am so relieved and pleased to get into Leeds to read English and history."
Nancy Boom, pictured with her mum, was the highest performer in the A-Level Media Studies course nationally.
She achieved two A*'s and an A in her A-Levels.
Also among the outstanding results was Anna Hughes, who was overcome with joy - bursting into happy tears - upon the reveal of her results.
She secured an outstanding three A*'s and an A.
She said: “I was so happy when I saw my results, I burst out crying. I am so excited to study Natural Sciences at University of Cambridge, Queens’ College.”
Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, said A-level results are expected to be “broadly in line with last year", however, Southend High School for Girls has buck the trend but achieving its best ever results.
It was also a record-breaking year for A Level results at Westcliff High School for Boys with 21 per cent of entries graded A* and 56 per cent of all entries graded A* or A.
In addition, a remarkable 83 per cent of all entries were graded A*, A or B.
Nine students have obtained Oxbridge places and the overwhelming majority of students will be undertaking courses at prestigious Russell Group Universities.
The students will be taking a variety of courses including Medicine, Economics, Engineering, Computing Science, Music, and Law.
Headmaster Mike Skelly said: “We commend the students on their excellent A Level results, and we are proud of these superb achievements.
"I congratulate the students, and our hard-working staff who have taught and supported them. I wish this year’s leavers every success in the future.”
