A FOUR-year-old girl is in intensive care after being hit by a van while crossing the road, prompting her “traumatised” mum to launch a desperate appeal for help.

Nancy Langley was struck by the van in Broadmayne, Basildon, while on the way to her childminders with her mum Ella Langley and two-year-old sister Freya Chalkley.

Ella, 23, has recounted the “traumatising” crash which saw her daughter “lying in the middle of the road, covered in blood” on Friday.

She said: “I work full-time and they go to a childminder over the road and have for years, I walk it four times a day and we are very careful even if no one is coming.

“This van didn’t stop and hit her, she flew across the road.

“It happened so quick and we have no idea what happened, I scooped her up and put her in the traffic island, she was kicking and screaming.”

Nancy suffered a fractured skull and is now in a serious but stable condition at Royal London Hospital.

Her sister, Freya, was not struck in the crash but was left sick and suffering a nosebleed, which Ella believes is due to the stress of the situation.

“She was opening her eyes [on Saturday morning] but is not with it, she is on so much pain medication, it is normal not to be with it,” Ella continued.

“I am traumatised, every-time I shut my eyes I see it happening again but I have a good support network of my mum, dad and friends.”

With Nancy still in intensive care, Ella has said she “does not know what she is preparing for” and will not know until doctors wake her.

The white Citroen panel van stopped at the scene after the crash and Essex Police’s enquiries are ongoing. Officers are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward by calling 101 or submitting a form at essex.police.co.uk.
