FOOTAGE from Southend Airport shows the "epic" moment two Eurofighter Typhoons took off at the same time today after a four-day stay in the city.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Lancaster and the Typhoons left Southend today after using the airport as their base while they took centre stage at the Eastbourne Airshow, which ran from Thursday to Sunday.

After their final-take off following the stay, Southend Airport shared this video of the Typhoon jets leaving the airport together this morning.

Describing the simultaneous departure as "epic", a Southend Airport spokesman said: "Watch the simultaneous departure of TWO Eurofighter Typhoons from earlier today (August 19), captured by ATCA Leo."

Their stay has once again sparked calls for the Southend Airshow to return, having been cancelled more than a decade ago in 2013 due to budget cuts and lack of sponsorship.

In August 2022, ambitious plans were revealed to revive the beloved airshow for 2024 by the Southend Airshow Group - formed of determined volunteers - by launching a mission to raise £500,000.

However, it did not come to fruition.
