TWO students across south Essex have ranked among the best performing results in the country.

Keen photographer George Macaree achieved perfect grades in all his subjects at Greensward Academy, in Hockley, including the highest grade for photography GCSE in all of England.

He said: “Photography was always my favourite subject and when I saw I got a 9, I was so pleased.

“But to then be told that it was the highest mark in the country - just wow. Blown away happy.”

The 16-year-old is now going on to study photography at South Essex College in September.

At Westcliff High School for Boys, Aaryan Vatsa achieved the highest grade in GCSE economics in the country, while Varun Ayyappan achieved a remarkable 12 grade 9s - the highest score - across all of his subjects.

Headteacher Mike Skelly said: “We congratulate the pupils on their superb results which reflect their commitment and hard work.

“The staff have provided terrific support for the pupils and they also deserve congratulations and recognition for the excellent teaching and guidance they have provided for our pupils.

“I congratulate both pupils and staff on their success and wish our pupils, and all those receiving GCSE results this week, well for the future.”

Emma Myers, from Stanford-le-Hope, also scored 159 out of 160 for her 9 in English literature at Southend High School for Girls.
