THE devastated managers at a long-standing bar and restaurant have announced it will close this week as they step down after more than a decade at the helm.
Andy Dosser and Michelle Marrs have been the driving force behind the Shoe Bar and Eatery at the Shoebury Hotel but financial difficulties have led to the decision to step away.
The business, ion Shoebury High Street, will close its doors for the final time on Wednesday, with Andy admitting it is unclear what the landlord will do next with the building.
The site itself has been serving the people of Shoebury since 1899, when it was built to replace an old tavern.
Andy said: “It is a real shame, as it is a massive hub for the local community.
“But it is an industry-led decision, costs are going up, and it makes it a really difficult business to be in. It has taken a long time to come to this decision, and not one we have taken lightly.
“When we finally lock that door on Wednesday, it will be horrible and emotional, as I have been involved for more than 11 years.
“As far as we have been advised, we are unaware if the business will continue or not. We don’t know what the future is at the moment.
“But we are really sad and will miss all our customers. But we thank them and all our staff for the support.”
Bosses have confirmed they will be in contact with those who have future bookings over the next few days.
There are also many items available for sale if anyone would like to purchase something to remember the venue by.
Regular performer, Sandie Gordon, heard about the closure and said she had made the best memories at the site.
She added: “It has been such a special and memorable place which is so close to many people’s hearts.
“Andy, Michelle and all the staff have worked endlessly to inject utter passion into making it a legacy in its own right.
“The Shoe has been one of the most friendly and welcoming places I have performed at and has provided a successful platform to a range of performers.
“I have had some of my best memories there. I can’t thank them and all their wonderful, kind and caring customers enough from the bottom of my heart.
“We have danced and sang the night away. We have not just become friends, but we are all family.”
