A POLICE officer has suffered a broken hand whilst making an arrest after reports of a domestic disturbance in the Rochford district.

Police were called out to a property in Canewdon shortly before 4.10pm on Friday August 23, responding to reports of an assault.

A 34-year-old man, from Rochford, remains in custody today (Saturday 24 August) for questioning on suspicion of common assault and assaulting an emergency worker. 

Upon arrival police found the man attempting to leave the scene in a van. 

While making an arrest, an officer suffered a broken hand. He was taken on to hospital where he received treatment. 

Chief Inspector Paul Hogben, Rochford district commander, said: “My officers frequently place themselves in harm’s way as they go about their duties protecting the public and arresting suspects. 


“They do not deserve to face injury while undertaking this important work. 


“Any such incidents will be investigated to the fullest extent.”
