WORK is set to begin on 35 new “much-needed” homes in Basildon in coming months, it has been revealed.

Sempra Homes have confirmed new homes at Broadmayne and Fairlop Garages will be under construction soon and will be complete and available from 2025.

As part of the developments, 50 per cent of the new homes will be allocated as social rent and let to those within the community.

The development will see 18 homes and a three-storey block of 15 flats built on green land bordering Church Road and Broadmayne.

Two further houses will be built in nearby Fairlop Gardens – with several garages demolished to make way.

Speaking on the development, councillor Andrew Schrader said: “I have no doubt at all that it is a very smart little scheme that will produce much-needed housing for local people.”

He added Sempra housing schemes tend to offer a mix of properties for affordable housing, or private sale.

The developer said the project will provide enhancements to the adjacent council-owned open space.

These improvements will include the retention of the pedestrian and cycle connections, and ensuring the area remains a “high-quality public amenity space.”

Melanie Keys, services manager at Sempra Homes, said: “We are really excited to be delivering this new development, which will enable us to carry out these improvement works.

“Both existing and new residents will have access to and be able to enjoy these enhancements for years to come.

“We are working alongside the Council’s parks, countryside, and biodiversity teams to ensure an improvement in biodiversity for the area.

“This includes incorporating bird and bat boxes, improving the health of existing trees, and creating a series of green pedestrian links to enhance access.”

The site is home to a variety of plants such as grass vetchling, red clover, chickweed, meadow buttercup, white clover, and various geranium species.
