SHOCKED families living on a Pitsea estate have revealed they are too scared to let their children out their homes to play after a stabbing.

Police officers were called to reports of a man, in his 30s, being attacked in Travers Way and found the victim had sustained stab wounds.

A blood stain was visible on the pavement close to homes on the estate on Friday morning.
A man, 49, was later arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to the incident at 8.45pm on Thursday.

He has since been released on bail until November 28.

One resident said the incident was “scary,” and described seeing a police cordon outside her property just after 9am and police patrolling the streets.

Residents reported seeing a man on another occasion walking around with a concealed machete.

Another resident, who asked not to be named, said: “A few things like this have happened over the last few years, it is scary.

“That’s why I have CCTV.”

She added this type of incident has become “common” in the area over the last few years.

A dad living on the Chalvedon Estate said he was concerned for his children and added it was “not a nice thing” to see in the morning.

He said: “We’ve got teenagers. They’re just starting to go out on their own. It’s just getting worse.”

A mum, who asked not to be named due to the amount of incidents taking place on the estate, said this attack was “just one of many”.

She said: “I’m looking at moving. It started this summer. There is a lot of gang activity.

“My kids haven’t been allowed out. We need a stronger police presence here.”
