TEENAGERS have been spotted breaking into a construction site and climbing on equipment and scaffolding, sparking a stern safety warning.

Residents reported seeing young people “risking their lives” by scaling the fence and accessing the building site.

According to witnesses, a group of three youngsters gained access to the site by slipping down the side of the neighbouring Billericay United Reformed Church.

The incident has sparked concern over the potential dangers of building sites, which are strictly off-limits to unauthorised personnel.

Phil Turner, Conservative councillor responsible for the Billericay ward, has urged youngsters to be sensible.

He said: “It is concerning and sadly happens all over. As a youngster you often feel immortal, and you don’t see or recognise the dangers.

“I am sure they think it is a great laugh, or great fun, but it is at other people’s expenses.

“And it is also risk to your life. These kids need to be aware that on building site there are hidden dangers.

“What turns out to be fun and a prank, can harm you and in some cases harm you for the rest of your life.

“I just urge people to be sensible. There is plenty of other places to have fun, which are far safer than playing on a building site. So, don’t do it.”

According to witnesses, the incident was reported to Essex Police, however officers are yet to find details of the report.

Pictures on social media show the teenagers wandering around a construction site ion Chapel Street.

The building site is filled with various materials, tools and equipment, as well as a partially completed structure.

Residents have urged anyone who knows the youngsters to educate them about the dangers of trespassing on construction sites and to keep a close eye on areas where such activities might occur.
