From a prolific shoplifter to a man making machete threats, these are 21 residents or visitors to south Essex who have been sentenced at magistrates' courts this month.

A PROLIFIC shoplifter has been jailed after targeting shops across Southend.

Sally Burrows, of no fixed address, stole £21.94 worth of items from Card Factory on July 17 before taking £150 worth of shopping from Boots two days later. She also attempted to steal 15 packs of ham from Tesco Express in the city on the same day.

The 49-year-old admitted the offences, as well as two counts of assault by beating and a common assault, all committed on July 19, at Southend Magistrates’ Court on August 7.

She has been jailed for 16 weeks and handed a £154 surcharge.


A MAN who made threats of having a machete in a restaurant in Southend has been jailed.

Danny Williams, of no fixed address, caused fear and distress to people in a restaurant in the city as he made threats of having the knife on August 6.

That same day, he also destroyed wine bottles at The Pipe of Port and damaged a holding cell in custody at Southend police station.

The 31-year-old admitted all three offences at Southend Magistrates’ Court on August 8 where he was jailed for four months and ordered to pay £85 compensation to police.


A MOTORIST who kept a vehicle which didn’t meet insurance requirements has been fined.

Danny Smith, of Lyndhurst Road, Corringham, was found to have kept the vehicle on May 31 last year when it did not meet the insurance requirements.

The offence was proved in his absence at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 14.

The 47-year-old has now been fined £220, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 as well as prosecution costs of £110.


A DRINK driver caught more than four times above the alcohol limit has been banned from the roads for three years.

Nichola Mulford, of London Road, Westcliff, was behind the wheel of a Toyota in Sheppey Crossing, Sheerness, with 144 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on August 3. The limit is 35.

The 39-year-old admitted the offence at Medway Magistrates’ Court last Thursday where she was handed a six-month community order to take part in alcohol treatment.

She was also handed the driving ban, fined £50, ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £114 surcharge to fund victim services.


A SHOPLIFTER who stole bottles of alcohol from B&M has been ordered to pay compensation.

Dominic Walcott, of Crown Avenue, Pitsea, stole three bottles of spirits from the store in Carr Street in Ipswich on June 18. He later stole four bottles from the same store on June 24.

The 32-year-old admitted the offence at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, August 1, where he was ordered to pay back £122.79.

This was the combined amount the bottles of alcohol were worth.


A MOTORIST who was caught without proper control of his truck has been hit with a fine.

Kirk Malcom, of Pendle Drive, Basildon was behind the wheel of a Volvo heavy tractor unit when he was found in a position where he could not have proper control of the vehicle in

Sutton Road, Maidstone on July 13 last year.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Medway Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.

Malcom, 31, was fined £72 and handed three penalty points. He must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £28.


A SPEEDING driver caught above the limit on the M25 has been banned from the roads for half a year.

Dean Dumbrill, of Gippeswyk, Basildon, was behind the wheel of a Renault Clio on the motorway in Swanley when he was found going above the 60 miles per hour limit on July 14 last year.

The 39-year-old admitted the offence at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court last Thursday where he was banned from driving for six months.

Dumbrill was also fined £246, ordered to pay £90 prosecution costs and a £98 surcharge to fund victim services.


A MOTORIST caught speeding on Southend seafront has been hit with a fine and points.

Paula Clark, of Surbiton Road, Southend, was driving a Peugeot between Marine Parade and Western Esplanade when she was caught at a speed exceeding the 20 miles per hour limit on June 8 last year.

The 59-year-old admitted the offence at Basildon Magistrates’ Court where she was fined £40 and her driving record was endorsed with three penalty points.

Clark must also pay £44 prosecution costs and a £16 surcharge.


A DRUG driver caught behind the wheel in Southend has been banned from the roads for two years.

Rozanna Lemont, of Southchurch Avenue, Southend, was driving a Nissan in Clifton Terrace when she was found with 301 micrograms of Benzoylecgonine, the major metabolite of cocaine, in her system on March 31. The limit is 50.

The 31-year-old admitted the offence at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on August 8 and was banned, fined £500 and orders to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £200 surcharge.


A DRINK driver who failed to answer to court bail after being caught behind the wheel near Lakeside has been hit with a fine.

Charlotte Dean, 28, was driving on the A13 in West Thurrock when she was found with 52 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on July 7. The limit is 35.

She later failed to surrender at Basildon Magistrates’ Court having been released on bail in criminal proceedings.

Dean, of St Ives Road, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, admitted both offences at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and was fined a total of £180. She was also handed ten penalty points, £85 prosecution costs and a £72 surcharge.


A DRIVER whose number plate was so dirty it was “unreadable” has been ordered to pay a fine.

Peter Cable, of Webster Road, Stanford-le-Hope, was driving a Citroen C1 in Clinton Road, Tower Hamlets, when his number plate was found to be “dirty and unreadable” on December 20.

The 42-year-old had denied the offence but was found guilty at Bromley Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday.

He has now been hit with a £100 fine, £40 to fund victim services and prosecution costs of £85.


A WOMAN caught on a train without a £9 ticket has been slapped with a fine.

Courtney Clarke, of New Waverley Road, Basildon, was travelling on a South Western train at London Waterloo when she was found without the valid ticket on May 12.

The offence was proved in her absence at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday.

The 21-year-old has now been ordered to pay a £60 fine, £9 compensation, a surcharge to fund victim services of £24 and prosecution costs of £180.


A MOTORIST who was caught keeping a car which was unlicensed has been slapped with a fine.

Constantin Racoceanu, of Alexandra Road, Southend, kept the vehicle in Grange Park Road, in Leyton Grange Estate, east London, on March 6, 2021 when the previous licence had expired more than a month earlier.

The offence was proved in the 38-year-old’s absence at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 14.

He has now been ordered to pay a £220 fine and vehicle excise back duty of £66.25.
Racoceanu must also pay costs of £90, the court ordered.


A MAN who failed to hand evidence to police in Billericay faces a large bill.

Sean Blenkinsop, 54, failed to give information to the chief officer of Essex Police in the town relating to the identification of a Ford Transit driver who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence on December 28, 2022.

The offence was proved in his absence at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on August 2 where Blenkinsop, of Royal Earlswood Park, Redhill, Surrey, was fined £660, told to pay a £264 surcharge and £650 costs and given six penalty points.


A MAN who failed to hand over evidence to police has been fined more than £600.

Daniel Wilsan, of Hainault Avenue, Westcliff, did not pass over information to Gwent Police relating to a Volkswagen Touareg driver who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence on March 7.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Newport Magistrates’ Court last Friday where the 34-year-old was fined £660, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £264 and £90 prosecution costs.

His driving record was also endorsed with six points.


A WOMAN caught speeding in a major road has been hit with a large fine.

Annette Brown, of Cross Green, Basildon was behind the wheel of a Vauxhall in Scotland Road, Liverpool, when she was found going at 50 miles per hour on July 1. The limit is 30.

The 62-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure last Tuesday and was fined £846.

She was also ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £338 and £100 prosecution costs at Wirral Magistrates’ Court. Her driving record was endorsed with six points.


A MAN who refused to give information to police has been slapped with a fine.

Darden Smith, 34, of Woodfield Park Drive, Leigh, failed to hand the information to Gwent Police relating to the identification of a Renault driver who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence on March 29.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Newport Magistrates’ Court last Friday.

He must now pay a £660 fine, a £264 victim surcharge and prosecution costs of £90, the court ordered. His driving record was endorsed with six points.


A WOMAN who did not hand evidence over to a police boss in Billericay has been hit with a fine and points.

Sophie Banton, 42, failed to give information to the chief officer of Essex Police in the town relating to the identity of a Hyundai driver alleged to have been guilty of an offence on July 7.

She admitted the offence at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, August 2 and was fined £369 and handed six penalty points. Banton, of Lamberhurst Road, in Norwood, London, must pay £85 prosecution costs and a £148 surcharge.


A SHOPLIFTER who targeted a BP garage in Billericay has been handed a community order.

Anthony Reid, 55, stole chocolates and alcohol from the BP Mayflower store on February 21 and items worth a total of £113.10 on February 28.

Reid, of Dalston Lane, Dalston, east London, also stole from Tesco Express in Chelmsford on June 9 and August 3.

He admitted the offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 5, and was ordered to take part in rehabilitation activity for 20 days. He must also pay £293.70 in compensation.


A DRUG driver caught at more than three times the limit for cocaine has been handed unpaid work.

Aaron Walker, of Alexandra Road, Rochford, was driving a Honda Civic in Ridgeway, Rayleigh, when he was found with 39 micrograms of cocaine per litre of blood in his system on January 7. The limit is 10.

The 22-year-old admitted the offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 6, when he was ordered to take part in 80 hours of unpaid work.

He was also banned from the roads for a year and a half, hit with £85 prosecution costs and a £114 surcharge to fund victims services.


A WOMAN caught drink-driving on the M25 has been banned from the roads.

Lacey Stones, of Victor Mew Close, Wickford, was found driving a Ford Focus on the motorway in Dartford on July 21 while she was unfit to drive through drink, Medway Magistrates’ Court heard.

The 39-year-old admitted the offence on Wednesday, August 14, and was banned from driving for a year.

She was also ordered to pay a £120 fine, £85 prosecution costs and a £48 surcharge to fund victim services.
