Huge new service stations on either side of the M25 near Brentwood could be built if plans are approved.

Motorway service area provider Moto has submitted outline plans for new services between junctions 27 and 28 of the M25.

The proposed twin stations would sit either side of the motorway, to serve both clockwise and anti-clockwise traffic.

If approved, the project would create around 400 jobs and bring £80 million investment to the area according to Moto.

A Moto spokesperson said: "These services are another milestone in Moto’s purpose to brighten people's journeys through life and enhance road safety, by offering motorists a safe place to rest, refresh, and refuel on this stretch of the M25, thereby reducing the risks associated with fatigued driving."

The Moto proposal also aims to ensure more frequent rest stops for drivers along this section of the National Highways network.

When the Lower Thames Crossing is completed, Moto said there will be a gap of more than 50 miles between service stations on this particular stretch.

It carried out a public consultation to help inform the final plans.

A Moto spokesperson said this has resulted in the proposals including at least 100 electric vehicle (EV) charging bays from day one, as the community had this as one of their main priorities.

Remaining bays in the car park will be ready for conversion as demand increases.

Moto's plans also include the use of a green living roof and solar panels, to sustainably generate energy for the site.
