A WOMAN has been arrested after "a dozen men and women" were involved in a large scale brawl inside a south Essex train station.
British Transport Police officers were met with chaotic scenes at Rayleigh train station at 1.45am on Sunday Monday after being called to reports of a fight breaking out.
According to social media, around a dozen of men and woman were involved in the brawl which has been branded as “horrendous”.
The British Transport Police has since confirmed it attended following the reports of a fight, and made one arrest.
A woman was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly before being further further arrested on suspicion of assault of an emergency worker and a racially aggravated public order.
The incident comes just days after an assault in High Road, Rayleigh, where a man in his 20s was reportedly attacked with a glass and then punched and kicked near to Paul Pry.
Rochford Council councillor, Danielle Belton, said: “It is always distressing to hear of incidents like this one, especially following another incident in the town on Friday.
“On the whole Rayleigh is a safe place to enjoy a night out but these kind of isolated problems cast a shadow over the area.
“My thoughts are with the victims and I urge anyone with information to come forward.
“My thanks go to our emergency services for responding quickly to the situation and securing an arrest.”
Enquiries into the incident are still ongoing and any witnesses with information have been urged to come forward.
A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Rayleigh railway station at 1.45am on September 1, to reports of a fight.
“Officers attended and a woman was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.
“She was then further arrested on suspicion of assault of an emergency worker and a racially aggravated public order.
“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
