AN enchanting steam train journey is setting off from Southend to one of the biggest Christmas markets in the UK this festive season.

Steam Dreams Rail Company will be taking rail enthusiasts on a magical day-trip from Southend Central to Bath for the city’s famous Christmas market.

The trip will set off from south Essex at 8am on Friday, December 6, with a vintage diesel making its way towards the capital and west London, where the steam locomotive 34046 Braunton will join.

Day-trippers will arrive in Bath at 1.30pm where the city centre, between the historic Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths, is transformed into a shopper’s paradise with 100 wooden chalets selling unique, homemade festive gifts, decorations and food delicacies.

The Steam Dreams website says: "Step aboard for an enchanting steam journey from Essex to one of the UK’s most popular Christmas markets.

"From the moment our liveried steward welcomes you aboard, you’ll be transported to a long lost age where every moment of travel is to be savoured."

Passengers will travel in vintage train carriages such as Pullman coaches, and can choose between three classes with packages which include the Steam Dreams signature Champagne cocktail and a multi-course breakfast.

With prices ranging from £175 to £410 depending on the class, customers can book their tickets at steamdreams.co.uk/book.
