THE family of a woman who has spent two months in hospital after a suicide attempt are pleading for answers from KFC after “receiving no contact” from the firm over bullying allegations.

According to her family, Emma Price attempted to take her own life in July after allegedly being bullied while working at the fast food company’s Pitsea store.

Emma, 32, was placed in a coma and declared brain dead before miraculously waking up and is now beginning her long road to recovery.

However, her family have been left furious and claim KFC have failed to contact them, apologise, or update them on the investigation into their claims.

KFC confirmed in July that an internal investigation was being launched and have responded to the claims by reiterating that an investigation remains underway and that they have had contact with the family, adding that their thoughts are with Emma as she recovers.

Mum, Samantha Day, said: “We’ve had nothing from them, we haven’t heard anything, they have not checked in at all and they haven’t come to the hospital, we have not been phoned or contacted at all.

“I am disgusted, it is disgraceful.

“I just feel like banging my head on the wall, just give us a call and say ‘we are sorry,’ or ‘we understand, is there anything we can do?’

“We’ve had no contact and that from a company. That big is a disgrace.”

Emma can now speak nearly perfectly but is yet to walk unaided and has faced difficulties relating to her memory as a result of brain damage.

Her family are now growing more confident that Emma will be able to return home in coming months.

Providing an update, Samantha said: “Her speech is coming along much better, it is near on perfect and that is a really good bit of progress.

She can feed herself but she does have a right-side weakness.

“Getting dressed she needs help and to get washed, everything else, including walking, is progressing at least.

“She is taking a couple steps and she can stand by herself, we hope she will walk, she can take a couple of steps and that is more than we expected.”

A KFC spokesperson said: “What Emma and her family have been through is devastating, and our thoughts are still with them as she recovers.

"Ensuring an inclusive working environment is our utmost priority, and we take the safety and wellbeing of our people extremely seriously.

"We've had contact with Emma’s family since the incident and during her recovery, and these allegations are being fully investigated through a formal process, which is still underway.”
