Aircraft enthusiasts have celebrated witnessing red, white and blue British Airways tails on the ground at Southend Airport today as the city welcomed nine diversions.
Seven British Airways planes and two KLM Cityhopper aircraft landed at Southend Airport this morning.
This was due to adverse weather conditions in London, with dozens of British Airways cancellations to and from Heathrow, the Echo understands.
While this was bad news for holidaymakers in the capital, the diversions were celebrated as good news for Southend which shows it can handle more flights.
One X user shared: "But good news for Southend Airport as several diverted British Airways flights landed there. Shows that airport can handle more flights!"
A Southend Airport spokesman said: "Happy Friday! Nine diversions in total so far today - brilliant to see so many red, white and blue British Airways tails on the ground, plus two stunning KLM UK Cityhopper aircraft.
"It's only right we give a shoutout to our incredible teams for handling our unexpected visitors this morning. The Friday shift is, ahem, flying by."
The airport staff certainly enjoyed a busy morning, as the diversions were followed by easyJet flights to Palma, Paris, Faro, Amsterdam, and Alicante.
