A man has been charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possessing offensive weapons.

Two officers from Southend local policing team were patrolling the city on Wednesday, September 4, when, acting on intelligence, they stopped a food delivery driver in Salisbury Avenue, Westcliff. 

During a search, police say they found suspected Class A drugs and cash, which were were seized.

A further search of a home in Westcliff seized what is currently being treated as a viable firearm, alongside ammunition.

A man, aged 46, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Now, 46-year-old David Barrett, of Fairfax Drive in Westcliff, has been charged with one count of possessing Class A drugs with the intent to supply and two counts of possessing an offensive weapon.

He was remanded in custody and appeared before Southend Magistrates' Court on Friday.
