From drink drivers to failing to hand information to police, a number of people have been banned from the roads for a series of offences in recent weeks.

A MAN who failed to give information to police has been banned from the roads.

Sultan Malik, 35, did not hand information to the chief officer of Essex Police in Billericay relating to the driver of a Ford Transit who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence on February 24 last year.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on August 15 where he was banned from driving for six months.

Malik, of Collier Row Lane, Collier Row, Greater London, was also ordered to pay a £660 fine, £90 prosecution costs and £252 surcharge.


A DRUG driver caught with cannabis while behind the wheel in Southend has been ordered to take part in unpaid work and pay over £1,500.

Kier Godfree, 34, was driving a Ford Transit van in Southchurch Avenue when he was found with 6.5 micrograms of THC - a cannabinoid found in cannabis - in his system on July 4 last year. The limit is 2.

Godfree, of Canewdon View Road, Rochford, was also caught with a quantity of cannabis. He admitted the offence at Southend Magistrates’ Court on August 16 and was handed 135 hours of unpaid work, £1,450 prosecution costs and a £114 surcharge.

He was also banned from driving for 21 months.


A DRIVER who failed to take part in a breath test has been banned from the roads for three years.

Denus Marquis, 51, in an investigation into whether he had committed an offence while driving, failed to provide a specimen for analysis in Southend on May 8 last year.

He later failed to surrender to bail at Southend Magistrates’ Court on August 22.

Marquis, of Blurton Road, Dalston, east London, denied both offences, which were proved in his absence at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Alongside the driving ban, he was fined £500, ordered to pay £300 costs and a £200 surcharge.


A MOTORIST caught speeding at the Dartford Crossing has been banned from the roads for a year.

James Waldren, 44, was driving a Ford Transit van on the Dartford Crossing approach road on March 7 last year when he was caught going at 57 miles per hour. The limit is 50.

He admitted the offence via the single justice procedure and was handed the driving ban at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on August 20.

Waldren, of Plymouth Street, Oldham, Manchester, was also fined £40, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £16 and prosecution costs of £90.


A DRINK driver caught behind the wheel in a residential street has been hit with a driving ban.

Owen Layzell, of Kersbrooke Way, Corringham, was driving a Ford Fiesta in Burgess Avenue, Stanford-le-Hope when he was found with 50 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35.

The 24-year-old admitted the offence at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, August 15 and was banned from driving for a year. He was also ordered to pay a £353 fine, prosecution costs of £85 and a surcharge of £141.


A DRUG driver caught behind the wheel in Southend has been banned from the roads for a year.

Mark Markou, of St Leonards Road, Southend was driving a Vauxhall Astra in Sutton Road when found with at least 618 micrograms of benzoylecgonine - a cocaine body-breakdown product - on June 16. The limit is 50.

He admitted the offence at Southend Magistrates’ Court on August 12, and was banned from driving for 12 months.

Markou, 27, was also fined £120, handed a £48 surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.
