A GERMAN supermarket giant has revealed it is opening its first store in Billericay by the end of next year.

Aldi confirmed today it will open 14 new stores in locations across the UK by the end of 2025.  This includes the new branch in south Essex, creating its first site in the town.

The supermarket giant had unveiled plans in 2022 to refurbish the current co-op in Queens Park Avenue, Billericay, to create its first store in the town.

The planning application had stated the new shop would create 50 jobs, although it is unclear how many jobs would be lost if the Co-op closes.

These plans were approved in June 2022.

Aldi has been contacted to confirm the location of the new store.

This comes after Aldi said it will invest an unprecedented £800million - its largest ever package of annual investment - to accelerate expansion in Britain, with 23 new stores opening in the next 16 weeks.

Giles Hurley, CEO for Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “British shoppers are voting with their feet and choosing Aldi as their first-choice supermarket. We’re responding with our biggest ever annual investment in Britain.

“For every £1 of profit generated last year, we’re investing £2 this year – opening more stores and building the supply infrastructure to bring high-quality, affordable groceries to millions more families the length and breadth of Britain.

“We’re also investing at record levels to cut prices, reward our amazing colleagues and support more causes in our local communities. All while creating thousands more jobs and even more opportunities for our growing base of British suppliers and farmers.”
