AFTER a stressful day at work, it was going to take something special to lift my spirits on a miserable Monday night!
But Hairspray certainly did just that at the Cliffs Pavilion.
A show so good it never stays away for long, this is a high tempo performance which combines brilliant songs and laughter with a more serious undertone of being able to overcome adversity.
By now, I’m sure most of you know the story but despite that lack of surprise what followed was still incredibly entertaining and enjoyable.
The lead characters were all superb with Alexandra Emmerson-Kirby as Tracy Turnblad, Soloman Davy as Link Larkin and Joanne Clifton as Velma Von Tussle all deserving a special mention along with Neil Hurst as Edna Turnblad and the stunning Michelle Ndegwa as Motormouth Maybelle.
The talent is off the charts and leads to a crescendo of noise and applause following the ever popular rendition of You Can’t Stop The Beat which ends the show on a real high.
Throw in the costumes, sets, dancing and energy levels and this is a show which maintains your interest during every minute.
It is most definitely well worth going to see and you will undoubtably head home in a far better mood than you arrived in, trust me!
>Hairspray is on the Cliffs Pavilion until Saturday September 14 with tickets available here
